Consulting Without Training … A Car With No Wheels
In today’s cyber security engagements, it is not enough for consultants to implement a solution, then walk away. A great consulting experience must culminate in effective customer enablement.
Effective enablement places customer engineers at a level where they can confidently manage and monitor this solution.
For this purpose, cyber security consultants must be experienced enablers, who can explain complex technical concepts in a clear manner. Moreover, they should have the understanding, experience, and flexibility to tailor their training to fit a certain type of audience.
For example, a training delivered to SOC engineers is different from that delivered to Sales engineers, different in turn from that delivered to C-level officers. To fit the purpose and add value to the specific audience type, the consultant must have the skills to alter the structure, content, terms and even the time frame of her/his training.
In all cases and scenarios, the training must be:
a. Delivered with best quality presentation skills
b. Precise to the need of the specific audience type
c. Concise and fluff free
d. Up to date in its content
e. Aided with best quality white boarding
Implementing a successful solution requires certain skills. However, a different set of skills is needed when training customer engineers to an extent where they command mastery of this solution.
It takes both set of skills to crystallise a good consultant.
